If you are looking for a small patio or small backyard tree that grows to 20-30 feet, here is an excellent choice. The Amur Maple, ginnala maxim, can be grown as a multi-stemmed tree or shrub. The trunk usually will go up to about six feet with finely branched growth that will create dense shade under its canopy. Pruning in early life helps establish dominant major branches. With a little help, watering and fertilizing, this small shrub will grow rapidly when young and slow down in its growth as it matures. Since its height only will get to 30 feet it is ideal for locations that have obsticles such as power lines, or lot lines that must not be encroached upon. This tree is also used as a bonsai. It has an oriental look and goes well in small rock garden settings. With its small three-lobed leaves, the Amur maple will welcome the fall with a brillant
colored display that will not wither on the first frost. The Amur maple is so hardy that it will grow in full sun, part sun, and withstand hot climates if it is given a shaded spot which helps prevent leaf burn. The Amur Maple can grow in zones 3 to 8. Not many plants span that large a domain.
